Our President, Kisha Barton, Talks Struggles + Successes with CocoaFab!

ImageOur chapter president, Kisha Barton, knows what it takes to be successful in this fast-paced industry.  CocoaFab’s Nyaja Covington sits down with Kisha for an inspiring and insightful interview.  Kisha shares tips on how to network effectively, build key skills employers look for, and talks about the bright future of The Black Public Relations Society-New York Chapter.

Kisha’s drops of wisdom:

For students looking to jump-start their careers in PR:

“Start internships freshman year. Most jobs want at least two years of experience. Make sure to volunteer and gain all the learning tools needed to perfect your career.”

On BPRSNY events and its members:

“We like to listen to what our members want and we encourage thinking out of the box. This is how a lot of our events come about.”

On networking and getting noticed:

“Try and mail a hard copy to the company you are applying for. Create a Linked In account, build relationships with the company employees and join groups.”
